Washington, D.C. — April 19, 2025
Washington Spirit and United States women’s national team star Trinity Rodman has been ruled out indefinitely due to an ongoing back injury, the club confirmed.
Trinity Rodman’s Back Injury Forces Time Away
The Washington Spirit released a statement Saturday:
“Trinity is taking time away from team activities to manage her back. We look forward to her returning when she’s healthy.”
Rodman, 22, acknowledged her back has been an issue for several years and may never fully recover.
“I don’t think my back will ever be the way it was my rookie year,” Rodman told reporters.
Trinity Rodman Undergoes Further Evaluation
Rodman is meeting with a Spirit doctor in London for more medical evaluation, according to her agent Mike Senkowski.
Despite her injury, Rodman recently returned to action for the USWNT, scoring against Brazil in early April. It was her first appearance for the national team since the U.S. won gold at the 2024 Olympics.
Trinity Rodman’s Injury History Complicates Spirit, USWNT Plans
Last September, Rodman left an NWSL match in a wheelchair after a severe back flare-up. She managed to complete the season but admitted the injury limited her during the Spirit’s NWSL Championship loss to the Orlando Pride.
Now, the Spirit and the USWNT must move forward without one of their most dynamic players — for an unknown period.
What’s Next for Trinity Rodman and the Spirit
-
Spirit’s Next Match: Saturday against the Orlando Pride.
-
USWNT Matches: Friendlies vs. China (May 31) and Jamaica (June 3).
Rodman’s timeline for return remains unclear, and both club and country will closely monitor her recovery.
