Cavs Regain Momentum in Game 3 as Garland, Mobley, and Hunter Return

Cleveland Responds in Style With Core Players Back

The Cleveland Cavaliers emphatically bounced back in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference semifinal matchup, routing the Indiana Pacers 126-104 on Friday night at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The win cuts the series deficit to 2-1 and resets the tone of the series.

Much of the Cavs’ resurgence came with the return of Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and De’Andre Hunter — three crucial pieces who missed Game 2 due to injury. Their presence restored Cleveland’s defensive edge and offensive flow after a crushing collapse earlier in the week.

Mobley Anchors the Defense in DPOY Form

Evan Mobley, recently crowned NBA Defensive Player of the Year, made his impact felt immediately. He delivered a well-rounded performance with 18 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and three steals — asserting dominance on both ends of the court.

Mobley’s ability to neutralize Indiana’s frontcourt and serve as a safety valve on switches helped hold the Pacers to just 42% shooting on two-point attempts.

“Mob was everywhere tonight,” said head coach Kenny Atkinson. “He brought calm, control, and elite presence.”

Garland’s Return Brings Stability

After missing multiple games with a toe sprain, Darius Garland returned to the lineup and provided a steadying influence. The 24-year-old guard played 25 controlled minutes, tallying 10 points and helping dictate pace with his usual floor awareness.

Though not explosive, his return clearly lifted Cleveland’s backcourt and helped limit Indiana’s transition opportunities.

De’Andre Hunter added physicality off the bench, contributing eight points and five rebounds while absorbing tough defensive assignments.

Game 2 Collapse Lit a Fire

The Cavs’ Game 2 loss — a blown 20-point lead punctuated by allowing seven points in the final 50 seconds — left frustration lingering throughout the locker room. That frustration was channeled into focus in Game 3.

Atkinson highlighted the importance of emotional stability with his full core back:

“It wasn’t just about points. It was about how we communicated and defended. The guys held each other accountable again.”

Mobley and Hunter had sustained injuries during the fourth quarter of Game 1, both during physical sequences that did not result in fouls. Garland had been dealing with his toe issue since late April.

Looking Ahead: Pivotal Game 4 Awaits

With the Cavaliers closing the gap to 2-1 in the series, Game 4 becomes a critical moment for both teams. The Cavaliers will aim to capitalize on their home-court advantage and the full health of their core.

For Indiana, adjustments in the paint and a defensive response to Cleveland’s interior attack are essential.

Game 4 is scheduled for Sunday night in Cleveland.
