Sweden Striker Issues Statement Amid £150M Transfer Standoff
Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak has gone public with his desire to leave the club, releasing a strong statement on social media accusing club leadership of breaking promises and undermining trust.
“I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken,” Isak wrote. “That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.”
His statement confirms growing friction with the club as speculation around a big-money transfer continues.
“When Promises Are Broken, the Relationship Can’t Continue”
Isak emphasized that Newcastle were well aware of his desire to move and called out the club for misrepresenting the situation:
“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue.”
The 25-year-old’s comments came shortly after he missed the PFA awards gala, despite being named in the Premier League Team of the Year.
Liverpool’s Bid Rejected, Newcastle Hold Firm
Liverpool reportedly offered £110 million plus add-ons for Isak, but Newcastle rejected the bid. The Magpies are demanding £150 million and won’t sell without securing a replacement.
Newcastle had previously targeted Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, but both chose other destinations. Ekitike joined Liverpool, while Sesko signed with Manchester United.
Isak has yet to return from summer break and missed the season opener against Aston Villa. Newcastle’s next match? A home clash with Liverpool — the club most aggressively pursuing him.
PFA Honors Overshadowed by Transfer Saga
Isak scored 27 goals in 42 appearances last season, earning a spot in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year. He declined to attend the ceremony, where he would have joined five Liverpool players among the honorees.
“First and foremost I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me along the way. I’m not at the ceremony tonight. With everything going on, it didn’t feel right to be there.”
Manager Eddie Howe Distances Himself from Drama
After the defeat to Aston Villa, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe commented on the situation:
“Other people are dealing with that issue.”
While Howe has expressed hope that Isak remains at the club, he admitted that the matter is no longer under his control.
With Liverpool on the horizon and the transfer window ticking down, Newcastle face a pivotal decision: keep an unsettled star or cash in before tensions boil over.
