📍 Memphis, TN — April 17, 2025
Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is officially listed as a game-time decision for Friday night’s crucial Western Conference play-in matchup against the Dallas Mavericks, which will determine the No. 8 playoff seed.
Morant’s Injury Status
Morant injured his right ankle during Tuesday’s play-in loss to the Golden State Warriors, stepping on Buddy Hield’s foot while drawing a foul from Quinten Post with 4:25 left in the third quarter. Although he limped off the floor initially, Morant returned early in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 22 points.
Despite completing the game, Morant missed Thursday’s team practice as the Grizzlies continue to monitor his ankle ahead of the must-win contest.
Grizzlies Await Final Evaluation
Interim head coach Tuomas Iisalo expressed optimism about Morant’s mindset.
“My feel with him is he’ll do absolutely everything in order to play,” Iisalo said Thursday. “If he’s physically able to do it, he will do it. It’s a legitimate game-time decision.”
The Grizzlies are expected to make the final decision on Morant’s availability shortly before tipoff.
