Liverpool are just two wins away from history — and Virgil van Dijk believes it’s only the beginning.
After heading in a dramatic late winner against West Ham to stretch Liverpool’s lead to 13 points at the top of the table, Van Dijk looked ahead — not just to the remaining fixtures, but to what he expects will be a transformative summer at Anfield.
“Whatever happens in terms of players going out, players coming in, I think it should be a big summer,” Van Dijk told reporters post-match. “I think they’re planning to make it a big summer.”
The Reds, under new boss Arne Slot, have already exceeded expectations. Now with six games to go, they need just six points to mathematically clinch their 20th league title — a historic achievement that would further cement Slot’s dream debut season.
Van Dijk, whose own future had been a topic of discussion, is reportedly set to sign a two-year contract extension, following Mohamed Salah’s renewal through 2027. But the Dutch defender emphasized that for now, the focus remains on the task at hand.
“We are two wins, six points away from glory. I know what it means to the club and I know what it will bring us if it happens… When it happens, it will be beautiful — but we still have a job to do.”
Reflecting on his journey since joining Liverpool in 2017, Van Dijk also spoke emotionally about what the club means to him:
“Being successful with Liverpool; the culture of the club, everything that embodies Liverpool — that is just part of me.”
When asked for a direct update on his future, Van Dijk played it cool, saying:
“Let’s see how this week goes… Maybe there’s some news. I don’t know. I know, but I don’t know.”
As the Reds prepare to face Leicester next, the mood around Merseyside is one of anticipation and belief — not just for a title in the coming weeks, but for what could be a defining summer in the club’s modern era.
