Core Veterans Recommit After Playoff Exit
The Golden State Warriors are already turning the page on their season — and their stars believe the best is yet to come. Despite falling to the Timberwolves in the second round, Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green are unified in their belief that a championship run is still possible within their two-year window.
“Our contracts — me, Draymond, Steve, Jimmy — are all two years [more],” Curry said. “It’s just about what this team needs for next year… I’m excited about it because there’s clarity [at the top of the roster].”
Injuries Derailed Momentum
Curry’s left hamstring injury in Game 1 of the second round halted the team’s momentum. He confirmed he was preparing for a potential Game 6 return, but the Warriors lost four straight.
“We’ll imagine and believe we could have won everything had we been healthy,” Curry said. “But you move on.”
Butler’s Arrival Re-energizes the Franchise
Jimmy Butler’s trade from Miami changed the Warriors’ trajectory. After his arrival on February 8, the team surged to a 23-8 finish, topping the league in defensive rating and assists per game.
Even limited in the playoffs due to a tailbone bruise, Butler proved vital. His 38-point effort in the play-in win over Memphis underscored his value.
“I landed here, and we hit the ground running,” Butler said. “I got my joy back. I get to be Steph’s sidekick for a couple more years.”
Green: “We Needed Someone Like Jimmy”
Draymond Green praised Butler’s impact and emphasized that the major roster move was already made.
“The biggest change that needed to be made was we needed someone like Jimmy Butler,” Green said. “And we made that change. That part is done.”
Looking Ahead to 2025-26
Curry noted how seamless the chemistry felt throughout the season.
“From the first game in Chicago to last night, it was a seamless fit. He gave us belief that we could beat anybody. Now you have to build off of that with a full season in front of us.”
With the core signed through 2027 and their roles clearly defined, Golden State enters the offseason with stability and belief.
