Green Finds the Right Line at the Right Time

MINNEAPOLIS, With Stephen Curry sidelined by a hamstring strain, the Golden State Warriors needed leadership, poise, and production in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal.

Draymond Green delivered all three.

In a gritty 99-88 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Green scored 18 points, added 8 rebounds and 6 assists, and hit four key 3-pointers. But more than the box score, it was his calm intensity and emotional control that stood out.

“He’s our leader,” said Warriors coach Steve Kerr. “When he’s right, he’s incredible to watch.”

A Promise Forged in Defeat

The performance followed a turning point just days earlier. After a reckless Game 6 against Houston, Green called his own behavior “embarrassing.” He took two days to reset, with therapy, family conversations, and even 90s R&B.

“I wanted to come out and prove again who I am, with poise, but with the same fire,” Green told ESPN.

That reset powered a composed Game 7 against Houston, and now carries into a new challenge: guiding the Warriors through a series without Curry.

Carrying the Load, Staying Composed

With Curry out through at least Game 4, Green becomes both emotional leader and primary playmaker. He’ll handle the ball more and must anchor the locker room without stepping over the disciplinary line.

“I’ve always walked that line,” Green said. “That’s who I am. Habitual line-stepper.”

But with three technical or flagrant points away from an automatic suspension, Green knows what’s at stake.

“Not crossing it is important for me and this team,” he added. “And I gave them my word.”

Respect from Kerr and Curry

Steve Kerr described a recent Game 7 morning talk with Green as “one of the best we’ve ever had.”
Curry echoed that sentiment, emphasizing balance:

“We want that type of Draymond, intense, fiery. But conserve the energy for us.”

Green has delivered so far, and the Warriors will need even more of it in Game 2 on Thursday, with Minnesota’s pressure and Rudy Gobert’s presence only increasing.

Bigger Than Stats

Draymond Green’s 2025 postseason story isn’t just about numbers, it’s about maturity, accountability, and leadership under pressure.

“For my guys, I need to stay that way,” Green said. “Forget anybody else.”
