Salah Wants Van Dijk to Stay as Liverpool Close in on Premier League Title

Liverpool took a decisive step toward clinching their 20th league title on Sunday — and Mohamed Salah is already looking ahead to next season.

After signing a two-year contract extension on Friday, Salah made it clear he’s not the only key figure he hopes will stay at Anfield.

“I would love to play with him next season,” Salah said of captain Virgil van Dijk, whose contract expires this summer.

Van Dijk, who scored a dramatic late winner in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over West Ham United, seemed to signal his intentions with a badge-kissing celebration in front of the Kop. When asked about it, he told Sky Sports:

“Everyone knows how much I love this club… let’s see what next week will look like.”

The goal capped off a tense afternoon for Arne Slot’s men. After dominating early and taking a deserved 1-0 lead through Luis Díaz, Liverpool were pegged back late in the second half by an Andy Robertson own goal. Van Dijk then rose above the crowd to nod in the winner from a corner — a clutch moment that edged Liverpool 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Slot acknowledged the tension:

“Alisson made sure West Ham didn’t score earlier… then all of a sudden seven minutes are added. It felt like they would score, but our fans and players thought differently.”

Liverpool could secure the title as early as next weekend. A win over Leicester City — combined with an Arsenal loss to Ipswich Town — would mathematically seal the Reds’ first Premier League crown under Slot.

But off the pitch, attention is shifting toward the future. With Salah locked in and Van Dijk dropping major hints, the club’s summer outlook appears bright — on and off the pitch.
