Barcelona confirmed that Robert Lewandowski suffered a left thigh injury during the 4-3 comeback victory over Celta Vigo.
The club set no return date after tests on 20 April 2025 revealed damage to the semitendinosus muscle.
Lewandowski limps out against Celta
Lewandowski went down holding his leg and was substituted in the 77th minute. Barcelona had recovered from 3-1 down through Dani Olmo and Raphinha before winning with a stoppage-time penalty.
“His return to team training will depend on how the injury progresses,” Barcelona said.
Injury lands before decisive fixtures
The news came six days before the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid and 10 days before Barcelona hosted Inter in the Champions League semi-finals.
Lewandowski was Barcelona’s leading scorer with 40 goals in 48 games. Twenty-five came in La Liga, where he led Kylian Mbappe in the scoring race.
Flick considers his alternatives
Hansi Flick had previously used Ferran Torres through the middle and also played Dani Olmo as a false nine.
Barcelona were still competing for La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. Losing Lewandowski at that point removed their most reliable finisher just as the season entered its decisive run. His recovery would shape Flick’s attacking choices across all three competitions.
