Gary Trent Jr. scored 37 points and matched Milwaukee’s playoff record with nine three-pointers as the Bucks beat Indiana 117-101.
Giannis Antetokounmpo also scored 37 with 12 rebounds as Milwaukee cut the first-round series deficit to 2-1.
Trent rewards Bucks with rare start
Trent replaced Taurean Prince after starting only nine of his 74 regular-season appearances.
He learned about the change one day before the game and responded with one of the best performances of his career.
His nine three-pointers tied Ray Allen’s Milwaukee playoff record.
“My mindset was just come in and get a win,” Trent said. “We know what it means if we would have lost this game.”
Milwaukee takes control in third quarter
The Pacers led 57-47 at half-time before Trent hit three quick shots from deep to level the score.
Antetokounmpo’s three-point play gave Milwaukee the lead, and the Bucks entered the fourth quarter ahead 86-75.
Milwaukee made only four of 23 three-point attempts before half-time but hit 11 of 18 after the break.
Lillard praises player he helped recruit
Damian Lillard struggled with seven points on two-of-12 shooting but said he had pushed Milwaukee to sign Trent.
“He’s one of the most confident players I’ve played with,” Lillard said. “When moments come, he’ll be there.”
Antetokounmpo praised Trent’s work at both ends and said he had set the tone for the win.
Pascal Siakam scored 28 for Indiana, while Tyrese Haliburton finished with 14 points and ten assists.
