Gabriel Martinelli said Christian Nørgaard could have broken his leg with a scissor challenge during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Brentford.
Referee Simon Hooper booked the Brentford captain in the first half, and VAR did not recommend a red card.
Nørgaard catches Martinelli on the break
Martinelli was carrying the ball forward when Nørgaard lunged in from the side and trapped the winger’s leg between his own.
“If my foot was on the floor, he could break my leg,” Martinelli told Sky Sports. “For me it was red.”
Martinelli said Nørgaard had apologised and insisted he did not intend to hurt him. Mikel Arteta protested when the yellow card was shown, while Brentford coach Thomas Frank described it as “a strong yellow”.
Wissa answers Partey’s opener
Arsenal took the lead after 61 minutes with a rapid counter from a Brentford corner. David Raya released Declan Rice, who drove forward and set up Thomas Partey.
Brentford equalised 13 minutes later. Nathan Collins headed Michael Kayode’s cross back into the middle, and Yoane Wissa scored on the turn.
Arsenal finish with injury concerns
Arsenal ended the match with ten players after Jorginho went off with breathing problems once all five substitutes had been used.
Partey was also withdrawn after feeling discomfort, while Ben White missed the squad because he was not fit enough to play.
The draw left Arsenal ten points behind Liverpool in the Premier League. Their attention then shifted to protecting a 3-0 lead against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
