Eberechi Eze scored and Dean Henderson saved a penalty as Crystal Palace beat Manchester City 1-0 to win the FA Cup.
The victory at Wembley gave Palace the first major trophy in their 120-year history and secured a place in the Europa League.
Eze finishes Palace’s first attack
City controlled the opening minutes and Henderson saved from Erling Haaland and Josko Gvardiol.
Palace then scored with their first attack. Jean-Philippe Mateta held up Chris Richards’ long pass and found Daniel Munoz, whose cutback was met first time by Eze in the 16th minute.
Henderson saves Marmoush’s penalty
Henderson escaped a red card when he handled outside his area, with the video assistant deciding he had not denied an obvious scoring chance.
He then made the defining save after Tyrick Mitchell fouled Bernardo Silva. Haaland handed the ball to Omar Marmoush, but Henderson read the penalty and dived low to his right.
Palace thought they had a second through Munoz, only for Ismaila Sarr to be ruled offside in the buildup.
Palace survive City’s final pressure
Manchester City pushed forward for the rest of the match, but Henderson saved twice from debutant Claudio Echeverri and Palace defended through 10 added minutes.
Oliver Glasner admitted Palace would lose that game more often than they won it. His compact plan nevertheless gave Eze the counterattacking chance he needed and Henderson the stage for a heroic performance.
Henderson dedicates victory to his father
Henderson dedicated the trophy to his father, who had died before the season.
“He was with me today,” the goalkeeper said. “He was with me in every kick of the game. I dedicate that win to him.&
Palace had lost their two previous FA Cup finals. This time, one ruthless attack and a goalkeeper at his best delivered the club’s first major honour.
