Jaden Ivey was cleared to begin basketball activity on 10 April 2025, more than three months after breaking his left fibula.
The Detroit Pistons said the guard would start a reconditioning program and increase his court work, with another update planned in two weeks.
Ivey advances to the next stage of recovery
Detroit stopped short of setting a return date. The clearance allowed Ivey to work towards game fitness nine days before the playoffs began.
The fifth pick in the 2022 draft had averaged career highs of 17.6 points and 4.1 rebounds in 30 games. He also shot 46 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from three.
Collision ended Ivey’s best NBA season
Ivey was injured during Detroit’s win over Orlando on 1 January. Magic guard Cole Anthony slipped while chasing the ball and fell into Ivey’s left leg.
Ivey left on a stretcher and had surgery the following day. “I promise to come back even better,” he wrote after the operation.
Detroit returns to the postseason without him
The Pistons improved from 14 wins the previous season to clinch their first playoff place since 2019.
Ivey’s clearance was an important step, but not a promise that he would join the playoff rotation. Detroit’s priority remained a full recovery from the injury that interrupted his strongest professional season.
