Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah signed a new two-year contract on 11 April 2025, ending months of uncertainty over his future with his previous deal due to expire at the end of the season.
The club’s announcement did not give the length of the deal. Head coach Arne Slot said later that day that Salah had extended for two more years, which would keep him at Liverpool until 2027.
Salah, 32, was the Premier League’s leading scorer with 27 league goals, and had 32 in 45 appearances in all competitions. Liverpool were 11 points clear at the top of the table with seven matches left.
Slot credits Richard Hughes and the owners
Slot, speaking at his press conference before Sunday’s home match against West Ham United, said he had known for some time that the talks were heading in the right direction. He said he was very happy Salah had extended and hoped the forward would show against West Ham how important he had been all season.
Slot praised sporting director Richard Hughes. Salah could have joined almost any club in the world as a free agent, he pointed out. “I think it’s also a big compliment for Richard that he achieved to extend Mo Salah,” he said.
Slot said he had been part of the process but added: “I don’t think I deserve the compliments.” He said the decision was first of all Salah’s and his agent’s, and that the club, owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG), Hughes and FSG chief executive of football Michael Edwards had put a lot of effort into the extension.
“Effort mostly means money. But also effort, not only money,” he said.
Slot said the deal might show that the club wanted another good season in 2025-26, and that he thought Salah was convinced there was a fair chance of that. Asked about captain Virgil van Dijk, whose contract was also due to expire in the summer, he said the club talked about contracts only once they were signed.

Speaking to Liverpool’s own media after signing, Salah said: “Of course I’m very excited. We have a great team now.&
He said he had signed “because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football”, adding: “I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10.&
Salah’s record at Anfield
Salah joined from Roma in 2017 and had scored 243 goals in 394 appearances for Liverpool, third on the club’s all-time scoring list. He had won seven major trophies with the club: the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup. He had also taken the Premier League Golden Boot three times.
