Mohamed Salah signed a two-year contract extension with Liverpool, ending months of uncertainty over his future.
The agreement keeps the forward at Anfield until 2027.
Salah commits during another outstanding season
Salah’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season. Liverpool did not initially announce the length of the extension, but Arne Slot confirmed it covered another two years.
The 32-year-old led the Premier League scoring chart with 27 goals and had 32 in all competitions.
Liverpool were 11 points clear at the top with seven matches remaining when the deal was announced.
Slot credits Liverpool’s recruitment team
Slot praised sporting director Richard Hughes and the club’s owners for convincing Salah to stay when he could have joined another team as a free agent.
“It’s a big compliment for Richard that he achieved to extend Mo Salah,” Slot said.
The Liverpool coach played down his own part in the negotiations and said Salah, his agent, Hughes, Michael Edwards and Fenway Sports Group had driven the agreement.
Salah believes more trophies will follow
“Of course I’m very excited,” Salah told Liverpool’s media team. “We have a great team now.”
He said he stayed because he believed the club could win more trophies and added: “I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10.”
Salah continues his climb through Liverpool records
Salah had scored 243 goals in 394 appearances since joining from Roma in 2017, placing him third on Liverpool’s all-time list.
He had won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup, along with three Premier League Golden Boots.
