The NBA rescinded Anthony Edwards’s 18th technical foul, clearing him to play in Minnesota’s regular-season finale.
The original call would have triggered a one-game suspension for the Timberwolves guard.
Edwards penalised for reaction to foul call
Edwards received the technical during Minnesota’s 117-91 win over Brooklyn.
After being called for a foul while defending Keon Johnson, he spread his arms and swore while asking referee Ray Acosta what he had done.
Crew chief Bill Kennedy said the technical was issued for profanity directed at an official.
Edwards believed the reaction did not deserve the call. He said he and Acosta had a good relationship and had spoken after the game.
League review overturns the decision
The NBA removed the technical after reviewing the incident.
Players receive an automatic suspension after 16 regular-season technicals and another ban for every two that follow. Rescinding the 18th kept Edwards eligible for the finale against Utah.
Minnesota avoid losing leading scorer
The Timberwolves entered the final day at 48-33 with a chance to finish as high as fourth and a risk of falling into the play-in tournament.
Edwards had already served one suspension that season after receiving his 16th technical against the Lakers.
Minnesota lost the game he missed but then went 16-4 over the next 20. Keeping Edwards available gave the Wolves control of their route into the playoffs.
