Inigo Martinez tackle seals Barcelona’s 1-0 win at Leganes

Inigo Martinez produced a match-saving stoppage-time tackle as Barcelona edged Leganes and strengthened their lead in La Liga.

Inigo Martinez made a match-saving tackle in stoppage time as Barcelona beat Leganes 1-0 on 12 April 2025.

Jorge Saenz’s own goal separated the teams, but Martinez’s intervention denied Munir El Haddadi a clear shot and protected Barcelona’s seven-point lead in La Liga.

Leganes make the leaders work

Leganes had beaten Barcelona earlier in the season and created the better first-half chances at Butarque.

Wojciech Szczesny stopped Adria Altimira, while Raphinha cut out a pass before Dani Raba could finish. At the other end, Marko Dmitrovic saved Jules Kounde’s shot at his near post.

Barcelona broke through three minutes after half-time. Raphinha crossed towards Robert Lewandowski and Saenz turned the ball into his own net while trying to intervene.

Martinez makes the decisive tackle

Raba had a header disallowed for offside as Leganes pushed for an equaliser. Deep into stoppage time, Munir ran through on goal, but Martinez slid across and took the ball cleanly before the forward could shoot.

Hansi Flick described the challenge as being worth a goal. Martinez agreed, saying a defensive intervention of that importance could feel even better than scoring.

Barcelona protect their title advantage

The victory extended Barcelona’s unbeaten run to 24 matches in all competitions, with 20 wins and four draws.

The only major concern was Alejandro Balde, who left in the first half with pain behind his thigh. Barcelona still departed with three points secured by a disciplined defensive moment rather than their usual attacking fluency.
